Many people in this hobby does not know how to acclimation new specimen to their tank. The most common acclimation mistake is temperture acclimation, flowing the bag in the aquarium for short amount of time. When the temperture between the bag and the aquarium equalized release the fish in to the tank. Mistake #1. No acclimation at all, simply open the bag and let the poor thing go, and people wonder why their fish or coral dies? Mistake #2. It's not just hobbyist, fish store do the same thing, I know a few aquarium store around (I won't mention any names here) don't know the first thing on acclimation, because I've seen they done it and boy did they do everything wrong. There are many way to acclimate a new specimen, the best and safest way is to do a drip acclimation. By using a simple air line, drip the water from the main tank to your acclimating bucket, the drip should start at 1 drop per second and after 20 minutes, increase the drip speed to 2 drop per second. The total drip time should be between 60 minutes to 90 minutes. Add an air pump if you have one, have the air bubble the water this would give additional oxygen. This is all it takes, not a very hard work. Do it right you won't have any problems.
